Bonfire Night with Casper and the Cats: Keeping Our Furry Family Calm and Safe on the 5th of November

Bonfire Night is a classic British tradition, lighting up the skies with spectacular fireworks and bringing friends and family together. But for pets like our lively Pomchi Casper and our calm, clever cats – the loud bangs and bright flashes can be stressful and scary.

Over the years, we’ve learned how to prepare our furry family to get through Bonfire Night with as little anxiety as possible and plenty of love and comfort.

Exercise Early to Tuck Casper Out
One of the best ways we help Casper handle the night is by taking him for a long walk well before it gets dark. Burning off his energy early means he’s more relaxed when the fireworks begin. If he needs a bathroom break during the displays, we only let him out into our fully secure, escape-proof garden — because scared pets can bolt in a flash.

Microchipping: A Must-Have for Peace of Mind
We keep all our pets’ microchip details fully up to date. In case of sudden fright or accidental escapes, having reliable ID is crucial. It gives us peace of mind knowing Casper and the cats have a way back home if they get spooked.

Natural Calming Support
No quick fixes here, but natural supplements have been a game-changer for helping Casper stay calm. Herbal blends with scullcap, valerian, and gentian relax his nervous system without making him drowsy or less alert. These are perfect not just for Bonfire Night but also for travel, thunderstorms, or any situation that can rattle him.

Keep Them Busy with Chews and Toys
When the noise starts, keeping Casper’s mind busy is key. Long-lasting chews and puzzle toys distract him from the loud bangs, turning his focus to something fun and tasty instead. Our cats might hide, but Casper loves his chew toys during fireworks season!

Safe Spaces for All
We make sure Casper has a cosy, quiet retreat inside, away from windows and noise. Our cats each find their favourite quiet corners, where they can feel safe until the fireworks are over.

Stay Indoors and Stay Safe
On Bonfire Night, all our pets stay inside where they’re safest. We never let them near fireworks or bonfires to avoid injuries. We also keep an eye on their comfort levels, giving extra cuddles and reassurance whenever needed.

With these steps, Bonfire Night can be a time of calm, comfort, and togetherness – even when the sky lights up in bursts of colour and sound.

Wishing all you and your pets a safe and happy 5th of November!
