The Pet Mum – Paula, and the eight who run the show
Hello, I’m Paula. I’m a cat mum to seven, a dog mum to one, and someone who genuinely cannot remember what a quiet house feels like.
The Pet Mum started as a way to share real life with animals – the joy, the chaos, the love, and yes, the loss. It’s grown into something I’m really proud of: an honest, warm corner of the internet for anyone who knows that their pets aren’t just pets. They’re family. They’re characters. They’re the reason you’re late to everything.
I share real moments – funny ones, emotional ones, and the kind that make you feel less alone at 3am when your cat is sitting on your head.

Poppy
The Standard-Setter
Poppy is a ragdoll. Poppy knows her worth. Luxury is not a preference – it is a requirement. Soft surfaces only. Optimal conditions always. Disruptions kept to an absolute minimum.
She is not unfriendly. She is simply very clear on what she deserves, and not in the habit of pretending otherwise. If something in this house is not up to standard, Poppy’s expression will communicate this clearly. She will not raise her voice. She won’t need to.
We do our best. We don’t always succeed.
Currently: judging, but gracefully.
Miki
The Main Character
Right. You need to understand what you’re dealing with here.
Miki is a Japanese bobtail. Miki did not receive the memo about being a cat. He joins the dog walks uninvited. He talks — constantly, loudly, about things we can only guess at. He has the attention-seeking energy of a labrador in a cat body, and the general risk assessment skills of someone who has never once Googled “is this a good idea.”
He has injured himself on multiple occasions. The details are not always clear. The confidence going into each new adventure is absolutely unwavering. He is a menace to the neighbourhood in ways we are still receiving reports about.
Miki runs this house. Don’t tell Tiny.
Currently: outside. Probably causing something.
Teddy & Mittens
The Tabby Twin Rescues
Our 7-year-old tabby rescue twins. Teddy’s our shy guy who only appears at mealtimes, while Mittens is a full-time lap-lover.
Casper
The Optimist
Casper is a Pomchi. Casper is a tiny white cloud. Casper wants everyone in this house to be friends, and he means this with his whole small heart.
He has approximately zero survival instincts. When Tiny chases him, Casper has concluded this is a game. It is not a game. Casper does not know this. Casper is having a wonderful time.
Mittens has decided Casper is her best friend. Casper is friendly with everyone so this works out fine. His actual favourite is his human — he makes this abundantly clear at all times.
He wanders into chaos and emerges unscathed, largely because chaos doesn’t quite know what to do with him either.
Currently: delighted. About everything.
Thomas
The Professional
Thomas is not just an affectionate cat. Thomas has elevated affection to an art form. A calling. A career.
He will find your lap. He will settle. He will purr at a frequency that makes it genuinely difficult to remember what you were supposed to be doing. Your laptop? That’s a warming pad now. Your deadline? Thomas has assessed it and determined it can wait.
He takes this extremely seriously. There is no casual cuddle with Thomas. There is only full commitment. We have tried to explain that work sometimes needs to happen. Thomas listens. Thomas does not adjust his position. Thomas purrs louder.
Currently: on someone’s lap. Obviously.
Tiny & Kiki
The Babies
Born 31st August 2023 behind my uncle’s sofa when he kindly took in a stray. They bring chaos and cuteness in equal measure.
