Halloween with Casper and the Cats: How We Keep Our Pets Calm and Happy

Halloween is one of those fun and spooky times of year, but while we enjoy the costumes and treats, our furry family can find it a little overwhelming. For Casper, our pint-sized Pomchi with a big personality, the noise and bustle of trick-or-treaters can be a bit much. Our cats often prefer to find their quiet hideaways when things get chaotic.

From experience, nearly half of pets show signs of stress during Halloween, from anxious pacing to hiding away or excessive barking. But there are some simple ways we keep our whole gang calm and comfortable through the spooky season.

Pumpkin treats for the win
We love using pumpkin as a tasty, healthy treat, perfect for Casper and great for cats too in small amounts. It’s packed with fibre and vitamins to support their digestion and immune health. Casper can’t get enough of pumpkin-flavoured chew toys or treats that keep him busy while the doorbell keeps ringing.

A little word of caution!
While pumpkins and pumpkin seeds aren’t toxic to pets, they’re not completely risk-free. The hard pumpkin rind can be tough to digest and could cause choking or even blockages if swallowed. Raw pumpkin flesh and seeds can also be choking hazards, especially for puppies, small dogs like Casper, and cats. So, always keep an eye on your fur babies and opt for cooked pumpkin treats or specially made pumpkin snacks that are safer for them to enjoy.

Creating safe spaces
When things get noisy, Casper has his cosy spot with soft blankets and toys, while the cats usually find quiet corners to hide out. Calming supplements and diffusers with pet-safe essential oils help ease any nerves.

Keeping everyone safe
Chocolate and Halloween sweets are a strict no-go around here! Casper’s costumes are always comfortable and simple – no fuss, just enough for some cute photos. We keep all our pets indoors during the busiest trick-or-treating hours to prevent escapes or stress.

With a little preparation and plenty of love, Halloween can be fun for everyone, even our sometimes scaredy-cat crew!
