Caring for Pickles the Hamster

Since beginning of this year, Pickles, our hamster, has been facing a challenging battle with an unknown skin condition. Despite undergoing rounds of antibiotics and other medications, her condition persisted, leading to the current treatment of steroids and skin cream. In addition to this struggle, Pickles, who is such a sweet resilient little creature, faced the additional challenge of a prolapsed pouch, a condition that demanded urgent surgical intervention to delicately stitch it back into place. This procedure not only required expert veterinary care but also showcased Pickles’ unwavering strength and determination to overcome such adversity.

Remarkably, Pickles demonstrates incredible resilience and cooperation when it comes to taking her medications. I have developed a routine where I crush her pills, mix them with water, and administer them via syringe directly into her mouth.

Regular visits to the vets each week are crucial in monitoring her progress and ensuring she receives the care she needs. Through it all, Pickles remains a fighter, and I am committed to supporting her on this journey towards recovery.
